Bidirectional secondary light distribution design for energy-saving headlights based on LED lighting energy and weak light collection

  • In order to further utilize solar energy, a new concept of LED headlight design using bidirectional lighting was proposed.Based on the principle of light path reversible and edge-ray principle, a rectangular compound paraboloid was constructed to perform a bidirectional secondary light distribution design for the LED headlights. The maximum exit half angle and the theoretical length of the rectangular compound parabolic reflection cup were calculated. The relationship of the maximum luminous flux, the average luminous flux and the luminous flux utilization of the rectangular compound parabolic structure changing with the length were simulated by tracepro software. It was showed that the optical composite property of reflection cup in L=130 mm was better than in theoretical length, and at this length, the illumination distribution of the LED automobile high beam and the weak light collection were simulated. Results show that for this type of headlights, the LED lighting and the weak light collection complement each other, improving the LED headlights space reuse utilization. In terms of lighting, the headlights can meet the requirements of the current standard GB25991-2010;the illumination range is larger under the same illumination, while the illumination is higher in the same illumination range; in terms of weak light collection, it can offer addition to the solar energy collection of the current non-concentration mode on solar vehicles.
